LIV Golf secures new investment ahead of Indianapolis showdown
LIV Golf announced a lead investor and additional minority interest as it prepares for its Indianapolis individual championship and the season-ending team event in Michigan.
LIV Golf revealed that a lead investor has committed funding to underpin the tour's upcoming era, which it says will be driven by player equity stakes. The announcement came ahead of the individual championship at The Club at Chatham Hills in Westfield, scheduled for Aug. 20-23, and precedes a tournament at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster that began Thursday. The season will close with the Team Championship at The Cardinal at St. John's in Michigan from Aug. 27-30.
In response to April reports suggesting financial trouble, CEO Scott O'Neil affirmed the league remains operational, acknowledging the difficulty but emphasizing the venture's purpose. Financial disclosures showed revenue more than doubled from 2024-25, ticket sales up 130% year over year, and sponsorships rising 40%, positioning the league for continued expansion.
Why it matters
The new funding keeps LIV Golf's controversial tour afloat and signals continued competition with the PGA Tour.
