Lloyds Banking Group to shut 28 UK branches in October
Lloyds Banking Group will close 26 of its Lloyds and Halifax branches and two Bank of Scotland locations across the UK during October.
Lloyds Banking Group confirmed that 26 of its branches - 23 Lloyds Bank locations and three Halifax outlets - will cease operations in October 2026, with closures scheduled from the 1st to the 29th. Additionally, two Bank of Scotland branches in Hawick and Grangemouth are set to close during the same month. The closures reflect a continued reshaping of the group's high-street presence as more customers adopt mobile and online banking.
Halifax is undergoing a digital transition, moving its customers to the Lloyds Bank app and website from October 5, and ending its own digital services on November 1. Affected customers will still be able to conduct face-to-face banking at other Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland branches within the group. The list of locations includes towns such as Barnsley, Birmingham, Blackpool, Bristol, and others across England, Wales, and Scotland.
Why it matters
The closures reduce physical banking options for local communities while highlighting the shift toward digital banking.
