Local election loss triggers power shift and internal turmoil for Sweden Democrats in Bjuv

Bjuv in northern Skåne saw a shift in municipal power after the Sweden Democrats performed poorly in the recent local vote, ceding control to a coalition that includes the Moderates. Local party leader Pia Trollehjelm attributed the loss to ongoing internal strife, recalling a past incident where a Sweden Democrat councilor barred Moderates from the town hall. Residents such as Helen Eklund, a loyal Sweden Democrat voter, voiced disbelief at the result, while Kenneth Nielsen, who never voted for the party, said the turmoil was expected.

Business owner Ahmed Safi criticized the party’s stance toward residents, and political scientist Anders Sannerstedt observed that the party tends to lose where it was once strongest. Regional leader Hanna Nilsson called for a thorough analysis, noting that the governing coalition’s success on crime issues reduced the party’s appeal.
