Local investor purchases Coorparoo Bowls Club for $6 million, averting demolition

A $6 million purchase by Griffin Hospitality Group has secured Coorparoo Bowls Club from demolition, ending a multi-year campaign to protect the site from high-rise apartments. Local investor Will Griffin bought the property in agreement with Bowls Queensland, which turned down larger offers to ensure the two bowling greens remain for competition and casual play. Griffin intends to renovate the clubhouse, bar and kitchen, maintaining the venue’s historic feel.

The club’s committee, which fought to save the site, will retain management through a five-year lease. Bowls Queensland chief executive Fletcher Dyson emphasized that the decision was driven by preserving community sport rather than profit. Committee chair Mark Delbridge hailed the transaction as a new chapter for the nearly century-old club.
