Local investors transform idle hotel into catalyst for Kuala Lumpur's business district
The ZIKAY Group spent over RM100 million to redevelop the Brisdale International Hotel, creating 300 rooms and boosting the surrounding economy.
At a ceremony in Kuala Lumpur, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Johari Abdul Ghani praised domestic private investment for revitalising dormant properties, citing the Brisdale International Hotel as a successful case. The hotel, redeveloped by the locally owned ZIKAY Group, required a RM100 million outlay over four years and is now operated by Brisdale International Sdn Bhd. Managing director Datuk Mohd Khay Ibrahim noted the development provides 300 guest rooms, modern facilities, and employs over 150 locals.
He emphasized the spill-over effect, with increased patronage for nearby food stalls, the Raja Bot market, and shops on Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman. The project also showcases how adaptive reuse can enhance the heritage-rich Kampung Baru area while preserving its character. Johari added that such ventures strengthen the hospitality sector, which contributes roughly RM300 billion and 3.5 million jobs to the national economy.
