Log Cabin Republicans Refocus on LGB Issues, Drop Trans Advocacy

The Log Cabin Republicans, a long-standing conservative organization for gay individuals, declared it will now limit its work to LGB concerns and abandon trans-rights advocacy. In a recent statement, president Ross Hemminger said the group is returning to the mission envisioned by its founders, focusing on sexual orientation and conservative values. This marks a reversal of the 2015 stance that had explicitly supported trans rights.

The decision has drawn sharp criticism from LGBTQ+ advocacy groups such as the National Federation of Stonewall Democrats, which accused the Log Cabin Republicans of abandoning trans people. Critics also linked the shift to broader conservative rhetoric on “radical gender ideology” and warned it could precede further challenges to LGBTQ+ legal protections. The organization, founded in 1978 in California, has historically aligned with Republican politics and supported President Donald Trump in recent elections.
