London ambulance staff endure widespread sexual harassment and abuse on calls

London Ambulance Service reports 462 incidents of sexual abuse against call handlers and health advisers between July 2025 and July 2026.

Between July 2025 and July 2026, the London Ambulance Service recorded 462 incidents of sexual abuse directed at its frontline workers and call-room staff. Recordings released by the service show callers using vulgar language, making sexual remarks and, in some cases, threatening or committing indecent acts. A 111 health adviser recounted a caller who simulated a sexual act during a triage call, an experience that required her to seek therapy.

Call handlers account for roughly one-third of the complaints, highlighting that harassment is not limited to on-scene personnel. Chief Executive Jason Killens KAM condemned the behaviour as "disgusting" and urged victims to report incidents for support and police involvement. The service cautioned that the actual figure may be higher, as many incidents remain unreported.

Why it matters

Harassment of emergency responders threatens staff wellbeing and can delay care for genuine patients.
