London launches the UK's first 'Flower Pharmacy' to lift winter moods
A new pop-up in London offers curated bouquets as mood-boosting prescriptions, aiming to help people cope with the darker winter months.
London's first Flower Pharmacy opened at 15 Bateman Street, offering a novel approach to seasonal wellbeing by prescribing bouquets instead of medication. Developed in partnership with the Plants and Flowers Foundation Holland and horticulturist David Domoney, the pop-up tailors flower selections to individual moods, using yellow varieties for happiness, blue-green stems for calm, and vivid reds and oranges for energy.
A recent survey of 2,000 adults revealed that a large proportion struggle with the return of darker evenings, with many seeking nature-based remedies. Organisers hope the pharmacy will shift public perception of flowers from occasional gifts to everyday self-care tools. Monique Kemperman of the foundation emphasised that simple acts like receiving blooms can brighten shorter, darker days.
Why it matters
It shows a creative, low-cost way to address seasonal low mood using everyday nature.
