London's iconic black cabs to receive major redesign and new electric model next year

London EV Company confirmed that its next-generation black cab will hit the UK market in the latter half of next year, the first major redesign since the 2018 launch of the zero-emission TX. The upcoming vehicle will meet Transport for London's Metropolitan Conditions of Fitness and is being shaped to serve drivers, passengers, fleet operators and municipal needs. Design sketches released so far preserve the iconic cab silhouette while introducing a fresher, modern character.

The existing TX has sold more than 12,000 units globally and its eCity powertrain has avoided over 450 million kg of CO2 and cut nitrogen-oxide emissions by about 60 percent. CEO Tony Chi described the announcement as a key milestone, emphasizing LEVC’s commitment to the future of the taxi industry. One outlet TX’s final batch will be produced this month at the Ansty facility, after which the plant will be retooled for the new purpose-built model.
