London's legal exports hit near £11bn as overseas demand soars

According to the Law Society, the United Kingdom’s legal services exports have risen by more than 60 % in the past five years, reaching a record £10.97 billion in 2025, with London accounting for the bulk of the growth. The EU and the United States together supplied nearly two-thirds of this revenue. London’s Commercial Court delivered 212 written judgments in 2025, almost double the output of its nearest rival in Dubai, which produced 117 judgments, while New York ranked third.

The London Court of International Arbitration reported that 96 % of its caseload involved at least one non-UK party, highlighting the city’s international draw. Mark Evans, president of the Law Society, described the sector as a major export powerhouse employing over half a million people, but cautioned that other jurisdictions are rapidly expanding their own legal infrastructures, threatening London’s dominance.
