Long Island grandmother and business owner found dead after targeted home attack

Rachel Frislid, 62, was discovered unconscious and later confirmed dead in her Sayville home after a violent assault that police say was targeted.

Suffolk County police reported that Rachel Frislid, a 62-year-old grandmother and owner of Academy Tent Rentals of Bohemia, was found unconscious by a family member in her Sayville residence on Thursday evening. Detectives later confirmed she had been killed in a violent, apparently targeted assault. Frislid, a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology, was involved with the Sayville and St James Chambers of Commerce and volunteered with local historic societies.

Neighbors recalled her as a beloved community member who was looking forward to retiring in Tennessee to be near her daughter and grandchild. Police emphasized that the incident does not present a danger to the public and have asked anyone with information to contact the homicide squad.

Why it matters
