Long Island man arrested for creating AI-generated child sexual images from real girls' photos

Police in Suffolk County seized more than 50 AI-crafted child sexual images that a 43-year-old Long Island resident produced using pictures of two girls taken from social media.

Suffolk County police, acting on a lead from the national Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, executed a search warrant at the East Patchogue residence of 43-year-old Nicholas Zavesky on Thursday. Inside, they found over 50 AI-generated images that removed clothing from social-media photos of two real girls, ages 12 to 16, and portrayed them in sexual situations. The district attorney’s office said the images were created by uploading the original pictures into an artificial-intelligence program.

Zavesky, who pitches for an MVP softball team in the United States Specialty Sports Association, pleaded not guilty at his initial hearing and was released with GPS, computer and internet monitoring, as well as a temporary protection order preventing any contact with the alleged victims. Prosecutors have not disclosed whether Zavesky personally knew the girls or how he accessed their social-media accounts. The case highlights the misuse of AI technology in producing child sexual abuse material.

Why it matters

It shows how AI can be weaponized to create illegal child sexual content, prompting law-enforcement and policy concerns.
