Long-standing Cumbria haulage firm JT Leyland enters administration
JT Leyland Limited, a logistics provider operating for over five decades in Cumbria, has been placed into administration due to tough trading conditions and rising costs, resulting in the redundancy of its 43 staff.
JT Leyland Limited, a well-known haulage and logistics business with more than 50 years of operation, has entered administration following a stretch of difficult trading and escalating costs. Based in Milnthorpe, Cumbria, the firm provided full and part-load distribution, pallet deliveries and same-day courier services throughout the UK and Europe, operating a fleet that ranged from transit vans to 44-tonne articulated trucks and managing over 70,000 square feet of warehouse space.
The administrators reported that all 43 employees have been made redundant, although a small number will stay on a consultancy basis to assist with the wind-down. Raj Mittal, joint administrator and partner at FRP, emphasized the priority of handling the closure orderly, supporting affected staff and extracting maximum value for creditors. The move adds to a recent rise in UK business failures, with official figures showing a 60% increase in administrations in August compared with the previous year.
