Los Angeles launches colorful tiny-home village for homeless residents in Sun Valley

In Sun Valley, a former trailer-park lot now holds 84 compact homes, each about 70 square feet, that were unveiled by Mayor Karen Bass on Monday. The white and yellow units, some branded by Pallet Shelter, include basic amenities such as windows, air-conditioning units and fire extinguishers, and share communal bathroom blocks. City representatives said the village can accommodate more than 200 people, who will receive three meals a day, on-site security and case-management without paying rent.

Councilmember Imelda Padilla highlighted the project as a step toward dignity and stability for the unhoused. The initiative aligns with Bass’s goal of delivering over 500 tiny homes across Los Angeles to reduce reliance on motels while permanent housing is developed. Nonprofit Hope the Mission confirmed each home is furnished, though details on interior layout remain limited.
