Los Angeles mayoral debate livestream hits capacity limit, leaving many voters out
A Zoom webcast of the mayoral debate between Karen Bass and Nithya Raman reached its attendee limit, preventing many residents from watching.
A Zoom webinar intended to broadcast the mayoral debate between Karen Bass and Nithya Raman reached its maximum participant count, displaying a message that the host’s capacity had been exceeded. The event, scheduled for 7 p.m. PT, was arranged by the Sherman Oaks Homeowners Association with support from the Sherman Oaks Neighborhood Council and the Sherman Owens/Encino Chamber of Commerce. Fox 11’s Phil Shuman was to moderate the discussion, which marks the first direct contest between the two November runoff hopefuls since the June primary.
Bass led the primary with 34% of the vote, while Raman earned 29%, and reality-TV figure Spencer Pratt placed third. Viewers expressed frustration on social media, questioning why a local homeowners group could restrict access to the sole live mayoral debate.
Why it matters
Limited access to the only live mayoral debate may affect voter information ahead of the runoff election.
