Louis Oosthuizen quits as LIV Golf captain, joining DP World Tour
Former Open champion Louis Oosthuizen has left his role as captain of LIV Golf's South African team and will return to the DP World Tour.
Louis Oosthuizen confirmed he is stepping down as captain of LIV Golf's South African squad, Southern Guards GC, and will rejoin the DP World Tour, which recently announced it will not grant membership to players who also compete in LIV Golf. Oosthuizen said the upcoming LIV 2.0 schedule would be difficult to manage and that he needs a calendar he can control to stay competitive. His exit adds to a string of recent departures, including Jon Rahm of Legion XIII, Sergio Garcia of the Fireballs, and Brooks Koepka, with Joaquin Niemann also likely to walk away.
LIV Golf, now backed by BC Partners, is attempting a relaunch without Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund after emerging from bankruptcy in the US and UK. The league set a Sunday deadline for players to commit to its next phase, though the date may be extended. Uncertain decisions remain for players such as Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood.
