Louisiana fishers sue Venture Global over dredging-related sediment spill
Commercial fishers, guides and processors in southwest Louisiana have filed a lawsuit against Venture Global, alleging that dredging for the CP2 LNG terminal released sediment that killed millions of oysters and reduced catches of finfish, crabs and shrimp.
A coalition of about 20 commercial fishers, fishing guides and seafood processors in southwest Louisiana sued Venture Global and related parties over a sediment discharge linked to dredging for the CP2 LNG export terminal. The complaint alleges that in August 2025 the company released between 9,000 and 18,000 cubic yards of sediment into a channel and marsh adjacent to Calcasieu Lake, killing millions of oysters and lowering catches of finfish, crabs and shrimp.
Defendants include Venture Global, dredging contractor Callan Marine Ltd., engineering firm Providence Engineering and Environmental Group, and the Cameron Port, Harbor and Terminal District, which helped secure permits. Plaintiffs request damages for lost harvests, equipment damage and continued murky water conditions. The lawsuit adds to at least two prior actions against Venture Global over the same project and follows a recent federal appeals court decision rejecting a challenge to the project's regulatory approval.
