Louisiana Teacher of the Year arrested for attempted murder after street shooting
A 25-year-old middle-school teacher honored as New Teacher of the Year was arrested on attempted murder charges after allegedly firing at two men in Donaldsonville, Louisiana.
Kyle Delaney, a 25-year-old social-studies teacher at Gonzales Middle School, was honored as the district’s 2024-2025 New Teacher of the Year before being arrested on Tuesday for alleged attempted murder. According to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, Delaney arrived at a street in Donaldsonville, exited his vehicle and fired multiple rounds at two men, wounding one of them several times. Detectives later tracked him to a residence in Gonzales, where he was taken into custody.
He has been charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon and criminal damage to property, and is awaiting arraignment. The victims have not been identified, and the motive remains unclear. Ascension Public Schools said Delaney is no longer employed by the district and declined further comment.
