LTFRB threatens penalties for taxi overcharging during All Saints' Day travel surge
The LTFRB warned taxi operators that overcharging, refusing passengers or disrespecting them during the Undas travel rush could result in suspension or loss of their operating permits.
Ahead of the Undas holiday travel peak, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board issued a stern warning to taxi drivers about overcharging, passenger snubbing and disrespectful conduct. Acting Chairman Greg Pua Jr. said violations could lead to the suspension or cancellation of a Certificate of Public Convenience, among other penalties. The board anticipates a surge of travelers to major bus terminals and seaports, with the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange projecting about 1.9 million passengers and the Philippine Coast Guard expecting up to 2 million at seaports.
LTFRB will actively track complaints on social media and carry out unannounced inspections using mystery riders. Pua emphasized that the agency is closely watching operators and urged commuters to report any misconduct via the LTFRB hotline 1342 or its official social media channels.
