Luke Humphries clinches Players Championship 28 title after edging Brendan Dolan

Luke Humphries defeated Brendan Dolan 8-6 to win Players Championship 28 in Leicester, reclaiming the world No. 2 spot.

At the Mattioli Arena in Leicester, Luke Humphries captured his seventh Players Championship trophy by beating Brendan Dolan 8-6 in the final of PC28. The win propelled Humphries back to the world No. 2 position in the PDC rankings, displacing Gian van Veen. Earlier in the day, Humphries dispatched Mike De Decker 7-4 after surviving six match darts against Danny Noppert in a 6-5 thriller.

Dolan reached the final by defeating Luke Littler 7-4, denying a potential showdown with the world No. 1. Littler, who missed the first 26 events of the season, is still pursuing a clean sweep of all major PDC titles, having already secured the World Championship, Masters, UK Open, Premier League, World Cup and World Matchplay. The tournament forms part of a busy 2026 darts calendar that will continue with major events broadcast on one outlet and NOW.

Why it matters

The result reshapes the PDC rankings and highlights a key contender in the race for a historic season sweep.
