Luxury Kimberley cruises halted as operator enters receivership, customers face losses

Kimberley Pearl Tours has been placed in receivership, leaving travelers with unpaid deposits and the company's vessel seized while its website still promotes future cruises.

Kimberley Pearl Tours, a luxury cruise operator serving Western Australia's Kimberley coast, entered receivership after director Daniel Brown missed loan repayments, prompting the seizure of its sole vessel, the Kimberley Pearl. Travelers who paid deposits, including Bob Shawyer ($8,500 out of pocket) and Ian Grant (facing a $140,000 invoice), were not notified of the insolvency and continue to receive payment requests.

Receivers from Hall Chadwick have been unable to access the company's records, citing Brown's withholding of books, and have sought ASIC assistance. Federal Court Justice Michael Feutrill has ordered that the company's assets not be sold until further mediation on August 31, while also questioning the motives behind Blackbird Private Equity's involvement. Legal experts note the lack of customer notification is unusual, and the case highlights broader concerns about transparency in private-credit financing.
