Lyft adds Waymo driverless cars to its app in Nashville partnership

Lyft announced that passengers in Nashville, Tennessee, may be paired with Waymo autonomous vehicles when they request a ride, marking the first collaboration with a major self-driving firm. The integration adds robotaxi options to Lyft’s platform while the company maintains a hybrid model that keeps human drivers on the road. To support the rollout, Lyft operates a provisional depot where employees, many of whom previously drove for Lyft, clean, service and position the Waymo cars.

An 80,000-square-foot dedicated facility is planned to open in October. Executives stress open communication with drivers, citing forums and appreciation events as part of the transition strategy. Lyft also intends to keep partnering with other robotaxi providers as autonomous fleets expand.
