Lynwood investigates hanging death of beloved husky after neighbor video spreads

A 9-year-old husky named Ruso was found hanged in a Lynwood alley, prompting a city investigation and community outrage.

Filiberto Reyes, a 34-year-old aerospace quality inspector, reported his 9-year-old husky Ruso missing on a recent Sunday, only to later view an online video showing the dog hanging from an orange leash attached to a metal security door in a Lynwood alley near a doughnut shop and laundromat on Long Beach Boulevard. Reyes alleges that a man and a woman, who had previously bitten the dog, coaxed it out of his fenced front yard with food before the fatal act.

Lynwood City Councilman Luis Cuellar confirmed the city’s awareness of the incident and said the city manager launched an investigation. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Century Station has received hundreds of emails, and detectives are urging anyone with additional evidence to contact Christina Smith. No suspects have been arrested, and Reyes says his family no longer feels safe living in Compton, contemplating relocation to Bellflower or Lakewood. The community remains disturbed by the alleged animal cruelty.
