M5S backs Giuseppe Conte to oppose further arms shipments to Ukraine

During its internal poll, the Movimento 5 Stelle granted Giuseppe Conte the authority to argue against further arms transfers to Ukraine, contending that they distance the country from peace. The ballot also showed strong backing for upholding international law and endorsing an international conference that would recognise a Palestinian state. At the party’s Nova 2026 event in Milan, Conte said his first move in government will be to erase the existing coalition programme and build a new progressive agenda.

He listed several policy reversals, including ending rearmament plans, rejecting military and commercial agreements with Israel, and abolishing legal protections for politicians. The party also intends to remove limits on investigative tools and surveillance measures. These positions will be presented to coalition partners in upcoming negotiations.
