MACC joins police probe into alleged MYEG and Zetrix AI corruption
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission will cooperate with police in investigating possible graft at My E.G. and Zetrix AI, after receiving a recent report.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission announced it will work alongside police to investigate alleged corruption at My E.G. Sdn Bhd and Zetrix AI Bhd, following a report received last week. MACC said it will exchange information with the police, who are currently conducting their own inquiry, and will be alerted to any corrupt practices uncovered. The agencies urged anyone with relevant knowledge to come forward.
The Transport Ministry had previously suspended both companies from acting as revenue collection agents for the Road Transport Department after reports they did not forward collected fees. The ministry claims the MYEG Group owes RM314 million for the period from May 19 to September 30, and Transport Minister Anthony Loke said legal action will be pursued to recover the funds.
Why it matters
The probe could expose large-scale financial losses and corruption in Malaysia's public revenue system.
