MACC says no asset declaration notice was sent to Saravanan's 12-year-old son
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission clarified that it did not issue an asset declaration notice to the 12-year-old son of former HR minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, who was present at its headquarters with his parents.
At a press briefing following MACC’s 59th anniversary, chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said the agency chose not to issue an asset-declaration notice to the 12-year-old son of former Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan. He noted that the relevant anti-money-laundering law mentions relatives but does not specify an age category, allowing MACC to act reasonably. Notices have been served to Saravanan, his wife and other children, although some family members were overseas at the time.
The child’s attendance at the MACC headquarters was to accompany his parents, not to accept a notice. Notices are issued under Section 36(2) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act, with a 30-day compliance window that can be extended for valid reasons.
