Madrid mayor says large knives and paving stones found in Sol camp

Madrid’s mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, announced that the city will submit a formal document to the Delegation of Government and the Ministry of the Interior confirming the presence of large knives, construction pavers and portable stoves inside the Sol encampment. The submission, which contains photographic evidence, follows a prior eviction notice and is meant to clarify grounds for a criminal lawsuit. He also reported violent clashes, including the vandalism of the historic Oso y el Madroño statue, which was spray-painted with anti-Ayuso slogans.

The mayor criticized the notion that the protest is peaceful and said the municipal police will erect a barrier around the monument. He questioned the statements of Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska and Government delegate Francisco Martín that there is no danger to public order.
