Madrid regional government gives 48 hours to clear Sol camp and protect historic building

The regional government of Madrid has intensified pressure on the central Government delegation over the camp that appeared at Puerta del Sol last Saturday. A request from the regional minister for Presidency, Justice and Local Administration gave the delegate 48 hours to issue orders for the camp’s removal and to ensure the protection of the historic Real Casa de Correos. The minister criticized the delegation and the Interior Ministry for inaction, citing complaints from nearby residents and merchants who fear economic damage.

He highlighted recent vandalism, littering and urine stains on the building’s façade. The region warned that failure to comply will lead to an administrative court challenge and may include further judicial or criminal measures against the delegate. The move frames the eviction dispute as a new front between the regional and central authorities.
