Magnitude 4.8 quake rattles eastern Japan, felt in Chiba and neighboring prefectures
A preliminary magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck eastern Japan early Thursday, with shaking reported in Chiba Prefecture and nearby areas.
The tremor occurred at 4:13 a.m. in the northeastern part of Chiba Prefecture, about 50 kilometers deep. It reached a seismic intensity of 4 in Asahi. Residents of Ibaraki and other adjacent prefectures also felt the shaking. The Japan weather agency recorded the event.
