Magnitude 5.4 quake rattles Karaköprü district in southeastern Turkey

The tremor, recorded at a depth of about 7 kilometers by the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority, was felt across neighboring provinces. Authorities reported that people evacuated structures and moved to open areas. Boğaziçi University Kandilli Observatory measured a slightly higher magnitude of 5.5 and a shallower depth of roughly 5 kilometers. The region still recalls the devastating February 2023 earthquakes that caused massive loss of life in Turkey and Syria.
