Magnitude 5 quake rattles Granada, injuring no one but damaging structures and vehicles

Around 1 a.m. on Saturday, a magnitude-5 earthquake struck the southern Spanish city of Granada, with the epicenter near the Alhendin district. Andalusian emergency services responded by extracting people from compromised buildings, though no injuries were reported. Television footage showed streets littered with rubble and cars bearing visible damage.

The Andalusian regional government announced an emergency declaration and cautioned residents to remain calm, stay out of damaged homes, and keep away from facades, balconies, and other potentially falling elements. Vice-president Antonio Sanz Cabello posted safety instructions on social media, emphasizing the need to limit movement in and out of structures until assessments are complete.
