Magnitude 6.2 quake hits offshore North Maluku, tremors felt in Manado

On Monday evening, a magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck the sea off North Maluku, with its epicentre located roughly 42 km northeast of Doi Island and a focal depth of 145 km. The tremor was felt at moderate intensity on Morotai and lightly in North Halmahera and the city of Manado, the capital of North Sulawesi. Authorities emphasized that no tsunami was expected but advised the public to stay alert for aftershocks.

Earlier that day, BMKG recorded a magnitude 5.5 quake in Banten province and a magnitude 5.0 event near Malang Regency, both described as shallow subduction earthquakes with no tsunami threat. All three quakes were noted as part of a series of seismic activity across Indonesia on the same day.
