Maharashtra Charity Commissioner gives Sir Dorabji Tata Trust an extra week to answer governance complaints
The Maharashtra Charity Commissioner has extended the deadline for Sir Dorabji Tata Trust to respond to trustees' complaints about its governance.
Complaints from trustees Venu Srinivasan and Vijay Singh have raised questions about governance at Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, leading the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner to require a reply by a set date. After missing that deadline, the trust asked for more time and received a one-week extension. The grievances cite the trust’s involvement in commercial matters of Tata Sons and the perpetual trusteeship of Noel Tata.
This scrutiny comes after a September 17 boardroom showdown at Tata Sons and the earlier freezing of Sir Ratan Tata Trust for alleged norm violations. Tata Trusts, which holds a majority stake in Tata Sons, has not commented on the investigation.
Why it matters
The probe could affect the governance of India's largest philanthropic conglomerate and its influence over Tata Sons.
