Maharashtra drug inspector exam leak leads to arrest of seventh-rank candidate

Rutuja Patil, a seventh-rank holder in the Maharashtra Public Service Commission's Drug Inspector (Group-B) exam, was taken into custody by the Mumbai Crime Branch's Property Cell on suspicion of receiving the leaked question paper. Police claim she was told to deliberately answer ten questions wrong to avoid detection. She was presented before a court and remanded to the Crime Branch.

This arrest adds to six earlier detentions, among them three MPSC officials and other alleged conspirators, who are accused of accessing and circulating the exam questions. Following a preliminary inquiry that found a breach of confidentiality, the MPSC cancelled the original recruitment process and announced a new examination to ensure fairness. The investigation proceeds under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Maharashtra Prevention of Malpractices at Competitive Examinations Act, and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
