Maharashtra FDA seizes ₹67.2 cr worth of food, suspends 603 licences
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration inspected over 12,000 food outlets between June and August, seized goods valued at ₹67.2 crore and suspended 603 licences.
Between June and August, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration conducted 12,083 inspections across hotels, restaurants, dhabas, clubs and similar venues, issuing 5,269 improvement notices and suspending 603 licences. The crackdown led to the arrest of 875 people and the seizure of food items valued at ₹67.20 crore, with a focus on prohibited products like paan masala and gutkha. FIRs were filed in 644 cases related to these items, and 110 vehicles carrying contraband worth ₹19.62 crore were confiscated.
Additional raids targeted a range of food products, resulting in the seizure of goods worth ₹42.17 crore. Inspectors reported serious hygiene violations, including lack of clean water, cold-chain breaches, infestations and improper storage practices. The FDA emphasized ongoing inspections to enforce food safety standards throughout Maharashtra.
