Maharashtra FDA commissioner warned three Bollywood stars they could be fined up to Rs 10 lakh over a Vimal pan-masala advertisement.
On August 14, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration sent formal notices to actors Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn and Tiger Shroff, requesting clarification of their role in a Vimal advertisement that regulators allege could amount to indirect marketing of a pan-masala product. Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe warned that failure to provide satisfactory answers may result in fines of up to Rs 10 lakh per person. He emphasized that the law bans surrogate, false or misleading advertisements and that any breach could trigger legal proceedings.
The agency highlighted its commitment to enforce these restrictions and indicated that action would be taken against violations. The three stars have been given a deadline to respond, and the case underscores ongoing scrutiny of celebrity endorsements for tobacco-related products.
