Maharashtra releases third list of over 3.5 lakh farmers for loan waiver
Maharashtra's Cooperation Minister Babasaheb Patil announced the third batch of 3,51,192 farmers eligible for the state crop loan waiver scheme.
On October 12, Maharashtra's Cooperation Minister Babasaheb Patil released the third list of 3,51,192 farmers qualifying for the Puneashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Loan Waiver Scheme, raising the cumulative count of eligible beneficiaries to 24.67 lakh. Farmers must confirm outstanding loan amounts and undergo Aadhaar verification at the nearest Aaple Seva Kendra to receive the waiver. The program applies to crop loans disbursed from April 1 2019 to March 31 2025 that remained unpaid as of September 30 2025 and March 31 2026, with waivers of up to ₹2 lakh, including restructured loans.
Banks have submitted data on 31.17 lakh overdue accounts, and interest and charges accruing after April 1 2026 will also be waived. Some borrowers with dues exceeding ₹2 lakh will have their loans fully settled under a government "haircut" policy. A standard operating procedure assists beneficiaries who are deceased, elderly, or unable to provide fingerprints.
Why it matters
The waiver could relieve millions of Maharashtra farmers from crippling debt, affecting rural economies and state finances.
