Maharashtra unveils two-year plan to overhaul Pune's transport and infrastructure

Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis revealed a comprehensive, state-financed blueprint to transform Pune and the wider Pune Metropolitan Region within the next two years. A coordination panel comprising municipal commissioners, the district collector, the PMR commissioner and the MIDC chief will oversee the rollout, which begins within two months. The scheme targets major mobility upgrades such as an outer ring road, an inner ring road, a High Capacity Mass Transit Route, new tunnels, and the imminent launch of the Shivajinagar-Hinjawadi Metro corridor.

Fadnavis also highlighted Pune's rising status as a hub for Global Capability Centres, noting the recent opening of Magnum Ice Cream Company's GCC that will create over 1,000 jobs. The state aims to make the region one of India's most livable and advanced urban areas by 2029, while pursuing a broader goal of hosting 400 GCCs and eventually up to 1,000.
