Mahathir Mohamad Hospitalized for Observation After Wife's Death

Mahathir Mohana d was admitted to the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday night for observation after his wife, Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, died the day before. His son, Mokzani Mahathir, told reporters that there was no concern and the 101-​ year-old former prime minister was stable in the hospital and being monitored for any issues related to his heart condition and fatigue from the stress of the ​ recent loss and hot weather conditions as well as lack of rest he has experienced in the past few days.

Mah Mah has a history of heart bypass surgeries and has been hospital several times in recent years, including a hip fracture treatment in January. His wife Siti Hasmah died at the same facility at age 100 and was given a state funeral before being interred at the National Mausoleum in Putrajaya.
