Thadius Wind, a 52-year-old resident of Eddington, Maine, received about 17 months of time served and a three-year supervised release term after a jury convicted him of three counts of interstate threats. The charges stemmed from social-media messages in which he threatened to kill Jewish people, former Vice President Kamala Harris, billionaire Elon Musk and local police officers. Federal agents identified Wind as the source of the posts and, upon executing a search warrant, found a cache of swords at his residence.
U.S. Attorney Andrew Benson emphasized that hiding behind a keyboard does not shield individuals from prosecution, and FBI Boston Division special agent Ted Docks warned that such threats are not protected speech but federal crimes. The Justice Department noted Wind's strong animosity toward the individuals and groups he targeted. The sentence serves as a federal reminder that threatening violence online can lead to imprisonment and supervised release.
