National Highways will close the clockwise M25 tunnel on the QEII Bridge of the Dartford Crossing from 10:30 pm on Saturday, October 17 until 6 am Sunday, affecting the east tunnel that handles roughly 150,000 vehicles each day. Southbound traffic will be rerouted through the west tunnel during this period. The agency also plans to shut the east tunnel again from 10:30 pm on October 18 until 5:30 am the following morning to carry out carriageway repairs between junctions 29 and 30.
Additional maintenance, including bearing replacements, is scheduled for the nights of October 24 and 31. The works involve upgrades to pylons, cable stays, expansion joints, CCTV, lighting, ventilation and drainage systems. Drivers are warned of significant delays and possible congestion on both tunnels during the consecutive closures. National Highways apologised for any inconvenience caused by the schedule.
Why it matters
The closures will disrupt travel for thousands of commuters and freight vehicles that rely on the Dartford Crossing each day.
