Major highway resurfacing to begin on shared M1-M7 stretch, causing traffic snarls

Transport minister Vitézy Dávid announced extensive pavement work on the shared M1-M7 corridor, which will lead to lane closures and longer travel times.

Transport and Construction Minister Vitézy Dávid posted on Facebook that a large-scale resurfacing operation will start on the shared portion of the M1-M7 highway, extending to the M7 and M0 routes around Budaörs, Törökbálint and Diósd. The aging pavement necessitates not only pothole repairs but also a full replacement of the binding and wear layers. The works will span roughly 9 kilometres and consume about 8,400 tonnes of asphalt, with an expected completion date in the third week of November.

Vitézy warned that the necessary traffic restrictions will cause periodic bottlenecks and longer journeys. Nevertheless, he stressed that these interventions are vital to ensure the highways remain safe and comfortable for users in the future.

Why it matters

The repairs are crucial for road safety but will disrupt commuters on a key Budapest beltway.
