Major water main break forces tens of thousands in north Prague to go without tap water
A rupture in a main water pipe at the corner of Ďáblická and Žernosecká streets will cut drinking water to tens of thousands of residents in northern Prague starting Wednesday night.
Pražské vodovody a kanalizace reported that a main water conduit broke at the intersection of Ďáblická and Žernosecká in Prague 8, prompting a planned water shutdown for tens of thousands of inhabitants in the city’s north. The interruption begins Wednesday around 22:00 and is expected to end Thursday afternoon. Residents of the Ďáblice and Prosek districts south of Liberecká street, as well as the Krocínky neighbourhood, will lose tap water, while some parts of Ďáblice will experience lowered pressure based on current usage.
The Prosek polyclinic will not be affected by the cut. Throughout the repair period, PVK will deliver alternative drinking water using tankers and bottled containers. A smaller, separate water outage is scheduled later in November near the Ďáblice estate, but that event is unrelated to one outlet emergency.
Why it matters
The disruption affects basic water access for tens of thousands of Prague residents, highlighting infrastructure vulnerability.
