Malaga council grants permits for new hotel and several tourist flat projects despite moratorium
Malaga's urban planning department approved a three-star hotel and five tourist-flat complexes, even though a three-year moratorium on new tourist accommodation was introduced earlier this year.
Although Malaga city council enacted a three-year moratorium to stop new tourist accommodation projects, the municipal urban planning department kept authorising projects that were already in process. In July and August, it granted planning permission for a three-star, 175-room hotel to be built on Avenida de la Paloma, replacing a car park, with 35 underground parking spaces and a pool. The department also approved five tourist-flat complexes: three nine-unit buildings on Calle Pepe Estrada, Calle Albéniz and Calle Las Navas, a fourth similar project on Calle Torre de San Telmo, and a 25-unit development on Calle Eduardo Domínguez Ávila, alongside an existing 20-unit project by a company linked to Estepona mayor José María García Urbano. Moreover, a conversion of commercial space into a student residence with 29 rooms and five parking spaces was authorized on Carrera de Capuchinos, near a Zenit four-star hotel under construction.
