Malaga officer spots fugitive teen hitman in Ghent, prompting new arrest

During a vacation in Ghent, a Malaga police officer spotted a 17-year-old who had been arrested in Spain for a shooting behind a cannabis club in Fuengirola. The officer could not arrest him because no warrant existed, so he followed the group, filmed the encounter, and sent the footage to his unit. The next day the Udyco-Costa del Sol organised crime unit learned a Dutch court had issued a European arrest warrant for the teen, though the officer had not yet been notified.
Using the officer’s information about the suspect’s route and nearby CCTV, Belgian authorities arrested the youth and transferred him to the Dutch court handling the case. The incident highlights the challenges of cross-border cooperation in organized-crime investigations.
