Malaysia and China discuss expanding anti-corruption collaboration and tech knowledge exchange

MACC chief Abd Halim Aman met outgoing Chinese ambassador Ouyang Yujing in Kuala Lumpur to explore broader anti-corruption cooperation and share expertise.

At a luncheon held at the Chinese ambassador’s official residence in Kuala Lumpur, MACC Chief Commissioner Abd Halim Aman and outgoing Ambassador Ouyang Yujing examined ways to deepen cooperation between Malaysia’s and China’s anti-corruption agencies, proposing exchange visits and joint expertise sharing. The discussion expanded to cover artificial intelligence, digitalisation, automation and the importance of upskilling staff to keep pace with technology.

Participants also exchanged views on education, tourism and cultural heritage preservation as avenues to reinforce mutual understanding. The meeting took place on Ouyang’s final day in Malaysia after six years of service. MACC officials present included senior directors from the Investigation, Intelligence, Policy, Planning and Research, Anti-Money Laundering and Special Operations divisions. The Chinese side was represented by Minister Counsellor Lin Shiguang and senior police officials Zhang Weikang, Li Xianfeng and Shi Longxiang.

Why it matters

The talks could lead to stronger anti-corruption safeguards and technology sharing between Malaysia and China.
