Malaysia and China launch rail training centre and trainer program
Four train-the-trainer courses led by Chinese experts will be held in Malaysia as the first step toward a Regional Rail Standards and Training Centre of Excellence.
Chinese master trainers from Liuzhou Railway Vocational Technical College will travel to Malaysia later this year to conduct four train-the-trainer courses covering passenger service, freight, power supply and signalling systems.
The centre, to be based at the Malaysia Rail Academy in Batu Gajah, Perak, will train rail professionals for Malaysia and other ASEAN countries and serve as a conduit for international rail technologies and standards. Both sides also plan to sign a memorandum of understanding at the World Vocational and Technical Education Development Conference in Tianjin in October. The cooperation is framed around three pillars—sovereignty, skills and synergy—to ensure Malaysia retains technical capability while fostering regional rail standards.
Why it matters
It builds local rail expertise, helping Malaysia become a regional transport hub and reducing reliance on foreign talent.
