Malaysia and China pledge tighter cooperation to combat cyber scams and drug trafficking

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Malaysia and China will deepen joint efforts on cross-border cyber-scam investigations and drug-smuggling enforcement during his five-day visit to Beijing and Tianjin.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, on a five-day working trip to Beijing and Tianjin, called for intensified Malaysia-China collaboration to tackle cyber scams and drug smuggling. He explained that cyber-fraud victims include non-Chinese nationals, making bilateral coordination essential. Both governments are boosting intelligence exchanges, joint investigations, and enforcement actions, supported by a joint security committee that also addresses narcotics trafficking.

Zahid noted that Malaysia's Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has held multiple talks with his Chinese counterpart, and that police forces are working closely with China's National Narcotics Control Commission. He also mentioned Malaysia's recent entry into the International Alliance Against Telecommunications and Cyber Fraud and his own introduction of a Cybercrime Bill to the Dewan Rakyat last July.
