Malaysia and Hungary launch business forum to boost green energy and high-tech ties

Malaysia and Hungary convened their inaugural business and investment forum in Budapest, targeting cooperation in green energy, semiconductors, pharmaceuticals and advanced manufacturing.

The inaugural Malaysia-Hungary Business and Investment Forum took place in Budapest, drawing roughly 60 Hungarian business leaders, chamber delegates and officials. Participants discussed joint opportunities in fast-growing sectors such as green energy, semiconductor production, pharmaceuticals and advanced manufacturing. Norafizan Mustaffa, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Malaysian Embassy, stressed that Malaysia offers a strategic entry to the ASEAN market while Hungary provides a foothold in Central Europe.

Sarawak’s Datu Lester Matthew presented the state’s Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030, which aims to secure EUR 69.99 billion in new investment, with priority areas that mirror the forum’s focus. Malaysian agencies—including the Malaysian Investment Development Authority and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation—along with the Hungarian Export Promotion Agency, facilitated business-to-business matchmaking. Hungary’s ambassador to Malaysia, Sándor Sipos, also attended, underscoring the governments’ intent to deepen economic links across Southeast Asia and Central Europe.

Why it matters

The forum could create new trade channels and investment flows between Southeast Asia and Central Europe, especially in green and high-tech industries.
