Malaysia awards RM1.18 million to civil servants for reporting bribery attempts
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission distributed RM1.18 million to 652 civil servants who reported bribery attempts between 2012 and 2025.
Between 2012 and 2025, 652 civil servants were recognised by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for reporting attempts to give or receive bribes, receiving a total of RM1.18 million in cash rewards and certificates. Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman announced that 529 individuals earned cash awards and certificates, while 123 were given certificates of appreciation. The police contributed the most recipients (437), with the Immigration Department, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry also represented.
The MACC highlighted high-profile cases, including a Perlis police officer who refused a RM200,000 bribe linked to a large drug seizure and a Johor officer who turned down a RM45,000 bribe. Officials said the scheme will be expanded to other public-service areas, such as procurement officers, to further strengthen anti-corruption efforts.
